Almost a decade ago, one Memphis family began to dream about starting a new church in Memphis.
After discussing this idea with other like-minded Memphians they started searching for a church planter. They soon connected with Jeffrey Lancaster and his family, who had planted a church in Uptown New Orleans. Jeffrey’s interest in the idea grew in the spring and summer of 2005 as he and his wife Cathy visited Midtown and Downtown Memphis. Shortly thereafter,
Jeffrey contacted Jeremy Jones about coming to Memphis to serve alongside him. After deciding to pursue this ministry opportunity together, the Lancasters were hit by hurricane Katrina, suffering the loss of their home and much of their material possessions. Despite this devastating event, the Lancasters still felt compelled to pursue planting a new church in Memphis.
In October of 2005, Jeffrey and Jeremy were called by Covenant Presbytery to serve as the church planters for the Midtown Memphis area.

Throughout the rest of the fall and the spring of 2006 the plans continued to take shape and Redeemer Presbyterian Church began meeting in July of 2006, serving the Midtown and Downtown area of Memphis. Eight weeks of vision meetings in July and August culminated in an inaugural worship service on September 10, 2006. Since this time, Redeemer has continued to grow in her mission and her love for Memphis.
